Figaro’s Aria

adapted from The Barber of Seville

text by Robert Paul Abelson

I am the big-shot of the whole town.

Now I have to go to my business.

My life is full of joy; it is a pleasure

For a barber of real quality!

Bravo Figaro!

He whom I can help is fortunate.

He who comes to me has luck and good fortune.

Ever racing around, spinning like a clock.

This is what I do and who I am.

Life is unpredictable, everyone rejoices.

There is no barber better than I!

Scissors and combs, the best knives—

When I need them, they are in my shop.

Scissors and combs, the best knives—

When I need them, they are by my side.

Then comes the time to speak seriously.

Women and girls, hardy men…

My life is full of joy; it is a pleasure

For a barber of real quality!

Everyone calls for me— beautiful ladies, old grandfathers.

“Where is my wig"?”
“Quickly give me a haircut!”
“I have a pain!”
“Write me a letter!
“Figaro!”

Oh no! A riot! A confusion!

Do me a favor—please don’t shout!

“Figaro!”
“I’m here!”

“You are Figaro! You are here, you are there!”

I go here and there—

Everyone calls me, everyone needs me.

I am Figaro—congratulate me!

I am the big-shot of the whole city!
